June 29, 2017 – Millenium Hilton today announced the commemoration of 25 years of hospitality and personalized service to the Lower Manhattan community and guests from around the world. When the hotel first opened its doors a quarter century ago, the hotel was originally called the ‘Millenium Hotel” named by the original owner, businessman and then-owner of The New York Post, Peter Kalikow. The naming of the hotel with one ‘n’ in ‘millenium’ was deliberate in anticipation of the millennium.

The landmark hotel, located at 55 Church Street, opened on June 29, 1992 with a total of 564 rooms (there are now 569) including a 55th-floor Presidential Suite featuring a Jacuzzi bath tub overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and a grand piano. In 1994, the hotel was sold to City Developments Limited (CDL) New York, the current owner, and came under the management of Hilton Hotels Corporation.

The front area of the hotel served as a triage center during 9/11, but the building itself did not suffer major structural damage.  However, the hotel did close for 18 months, in which repairs were made to the glass facade of the building. The hotel reopened on May 5, 2003 in a ceremony presided over by Mayor Bloomberg. The flag that was flying outside the hotel on September 11, 2001 was saved by team members, which is now framed and located in the lobby of the hotel.

Today, the hotel overlooks the heart of a revived neighborhood as Lower Manhattan’s redevelopment boasting new cultural, retail and recreational attractions continues to attract travelers from around the world. Many of the hotel’s guest rooms overlook One World Trade Center and the North Memorial Pond while Church & Dey, the third floor restaurant, offers patrons a bird’s eye view of Oculus Plaza and a view of One World Trade Center.

Over the next few months, the hotel will be celebrating its history in the neighborhood and how much it has flourished with all of the new residences, dining options, parks, and shopping.

In celebration of the anniversary, 25 guests who are staying at the hotel on June 29 will receive 2,500 Hilton Honors Points. Additional celebrations for both the public and guests will take place during the anniversary week from Monday, June 26 – Friday, June 30. On Tuesday, June 27, the hotel will celebrate National Pineapple Day – the symbol of hospitality – by handing out free pineapple icees outside the hotel and signing up new Hilton Honors members.
