July 26, 2017 – Road Scholar, the not-for-profit leader in educational travel for adults, recently launched #ageadventurously, a campaign designed to celebrate growing older. Beginning in July, the campaign shines the spotlight on social media— specifically Instagram—and shows baby boomers that aging adventurously isn’t reserved for skydivers and zip-liners—it can also be about exploring and learning new things, including new digital tools that may seem intimidating to a generation that grew up with landlines, not hashtags.

While Facebook has been broadly embraced by all age groups, other social media tools, including Instagram, continue to lag in popularity with adults over 50. In fact, according to a Pew Research study, only 11 percent of 50- to 64-year-olds use Instagram, and a scant 4 percent over 65 use the popular social media tool. In helping keep our participants current, aware and connected, Road Scholar’s #ageadventurously campaign is introducing a series of tutorials, blogs, “office hours” and Facebook Live videos all geared toward helping boomers embrace Instagram with the same enthusiasm as Facebook.

“First and foremost, Road Scholar is an educational organization and we always encourage our participants to continue to learn, whether it’s on a Road Scholar educational adventure or learning a new language or technology,” said Kristin Moore, senior vice president of communications and marketing at Road Scholar. “Our participants love sharing their experiences with others already, and we believe with a little encouragement and assistance, they will join the 500 million monthly active users on Instagram.”

We invite you to celebrate aging with us. Click here to learn more about Road Scholar’s #ageadventurously campaign. https://www.roadscholar.org/collections/ageadventurously/.
