Architectural Concepts, Inc. (ACI) a San Diego company regarded as one of the Southwest’s top architectural and interior design firms announced the completion of renovation of a 20,000 SF office and fabrication space for the nationally recognized mechanical contractor, Countywide Mechanical.
The space was nominated for the San Diego Architectural Foundation’s 2016 Orchid Award for interior design and a 2016 Floor Focus Vision Award, sponsored by Floor Focus Magazine, in the corporate category.
Countywide came to ACI with a vision to create an environment that spoke both to the work that they perform (mechanical systems fabrication) as well as the history of their company while creating an individual identity for their office. After many programming sessions ACI developed a space plan that gave privacy when needed, collaboration space, flexible and mobile offices, creative break areas, many meeting spaces and a large training room.
Jesse Gonzalez, ACI’s senior interior designer, custom designed the main conference room table with a reclaimed wood top and rustic iron table base. Also included in Jesse’s design were raw materials such as sheet metal commonly used by the client on an everyday basis. These materials were repurposed to create furniture installed throughout the office space, creating something familiar to those that work there every day.
Margit Whitlock, AIA, Principal of ACI said “What helps bring a unique identity to this specific location is the flooring and other materials in the space. The desire to have a sophisticated yet industrial feel was accomplished and impeccably delivered with high-end carpet tile in different colors and patterns to create zones, multi sized porcelain tile, and the use of walnut wood on the walls and ceiling. “
Countrywide’s space was built by TSA Contracting San Diego, CA, with furniture coming from Innovative Commercial Environments Del Mar, CA.
