May 18 2017- Framed by Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences 25th anniversary celebration, last Sunday, May 14th Hacienda Tres Ríos Triathlon hosted its seventh annual Hacienda Tres Rios Triathlon. More than 500 triathletes participated beginning their day by the beach early in the morning to start the competition, which was divided in 12 categories in the sprint, children’s and relay classifications.
Sprint classification started the competition at 7:00 am with a 750-meter open ocean swim and a counter-current river swim up to Hacienda Tres Rios’ famous cenote el Águila. Later that day, the athletes rode 20 km on the Playa del Carmen – Cancún highway and finished with 5 km running in the 326-acre Tres Ríos Natural Park.
Victoria Juanicotena from Cancún, and Rodrigo Camarillo from Cozumel won the competition. Juanicotena finished in 1 hour 12 minutes and 41 seconds; Camarillo finished in 1 hour 4 minutes and 10 seconds. During the award ceremony special recognition was given to Marcos Velázquez, a blind triathlete who participated in this year’s event.
