Interval International, a leading global provider of vacation services, presented a special award to Royal Resorts Caribbean, in recognition of its contributions to St. Maarten’s shared ownership industry. Royal Resorts Caribbean is a vacation club with properties in Aruba, Curacao, and St. Maarten and is an Interval affiliate.

“Richard Sutton, the chairman of Royal Resorts Caribbean, is truly a pioneer in the business. Throughout his more than 40-year career, he has led the development of some of the largest purpose-built resorts and established innovative sales practices and ownership structures,” said David Gilbert, Interval’s president. “His latest endeavor, the renovation of Simpson Bay Resort & Marina, one of the largest independent projects in the Caribbean, sets a high standard for accommodations in the region.”

Royal Resorts Caribbean implemented an ambitious five-year, US$35-million renovation of Simpson Bay Resort & Marina, which included the complete refurbishment of more than 420 timeshare units that were built in the 1980s as part of Pelican Resort. Units were gutted and rebuilt with new flooring, walls, ceilings, plumbing, electrical, doors, windows, furnishings, and soft goods. In addition, the exteriors were painted and the roof replaced.

“We are proud to receive this award commending the extensive work and resources that we have dedicated to enhance the guest experience at Simpson Bay Resort & Marina,” noted Sutton. “Our team embarked on this project because we understand that global tourism is more competitive than ever and we must not rest on our laurels. We have met the challenge and the results are a testament to our collective efforts.”

Neil Kolton, Interval’s director of resort sales and service for the Caribbean and Florida, presented the award to Royal Resorts Caribbean executives at the 11th annual St. Maarten Hospitality & Trade Association Crystal Pineapple Gala held recently in Philipsburg.

Royal Resorts Caribbean has also begun the renovation of The Marina Plaza. When completed, it will be one of the island’s most impressive waterfront attractions, with shopping, dining, entertainment, and retail options.

A points-based membership club, Royal Resorts Caribbean Collection offers unique and memorable vacation experiences at its own resorts located in renowned destinations, as well as through Interval’s global vacation exchange network. The system allows members to tailor their vacations to their specific preferences, including length of stay, check-in date, accommodation size, and season of travel.
