Originally from London, Mr. Carney attended Saint Benedict’s School in Ealing, and studied Spanish Literature and European History at University College Swansea, University of Wales and Spanish at the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain. He traveled to Mexico in 1983 and joined Royal Resorts® in the same year. Appointed Marketing and Sales Director in 1989, he is responsible for sales and marketing in the six Royal Resorts in Cancún and the Riviera Maya.

Mr. Carney was appointed the Honorary British Consul for the state of Quintana Roo in 1993 and took responsibility for Yucatán in 2001. He is also the representative of the British Chamber of Commerce for southeast Mexico. In 2004, he was awarded an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of his services to British Citizens abroad in his capacity as British Consul.

Mr. Carney is married with four children and lives in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
