Company Overview
Founded in Cancún in 1975, Royal Resorts® is a pioneer in the Mexican tourism industry. The company has five beachfront resorts in Cancún: The Royal Cancun® (formerly known as Club Internacional de Cancun), The Royal Mayan®, The Royal Caribbean®, The Royal Islander® and The Royal Sands® and one in Playa del Carmen, The Royal Haciendas®, located at the heart of the Riviera Maya. All the Royal Resorts are luxury beachfront properties with spacious fully equipped two-bedroom apartments and an array of five-star amenities and activities. Royal Resorts is one of Cancún’s three largest companies and currently has 3,000 employees.
Around 85,000 member families hailing from 51 countries choose to vacation with Royal Resorts and independent surveys report a 97 percent member satisfaction rate, one of the highest ratings received in the vacation ownership industry worldwide. The company has received numerous accolades including the coveted Five Star Award, given by Interval International (www.intervalworld.com) every year since the award’s inception in 1984. In the Interval International Resort Recognition Program introduced in 2008, the Royal Resorts in the Mexican Caribbean are classified as Premier Resorts, the highest distinction, only awarded to properties that offer an exceptional vacation experience and state of the art services. Members of the independent Timeshare User’s Group have also shown their preference for Royal Resorts by voting five of its Mexican Caribbean properties – including The Royal Haciendas – into the World’s Top 20 Resorts on the TUG website www.tug2.net
The Royal Sands has been voted by holidaymakers around the world as Cancún’s top family resort in Trip Advisor Travelers Choice 2011 and 2010. In 2009, it joined The Royal Cancun in receiving the Trip Advisor Travelers Choice accolade in the category of world’s top 80 family resorts. The Royal Cancun and The Royal Haciendas also received Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence in 2010.
Royal Resorts has been certified as a company with eco friendly policies by MARTI, the Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative, and is committed to its role of environmental stewardship. Its green actions include recycling, beach cleaning, LED lighting, reducing consumption of non-biodegradable products such as polystyrene. Solar panels have already been installed at The Royal Sands and through the use of ozone pool technology at all resorts, the use of chlorine has fallen by 40 percent.
A proud participant in the global campaign to save the sea turtle since 1985, four of the Royal Resorts account for 20 percent of the thousands of baby turtles released in Cancun every summer. Formal record keeping began at the resorts in 1998 and as of September 2011 Royal Resorts had protected 4,789 nests and released 334,840 turtles, with thousands of eggs still to hatch in the final weeks of the season.
A socially responsible company, Royal Resorts is supporting a scholarship program for needy children, the fight against cancer, conservation and sustainable development projects through the Royal Resorts Foundation (Fundación Royal Resorts A.C.).
