AMDETUR’s Annual Conference: Tourism Facing the New Challenges
February 11, 2011‘We have to learn from the past in order to solve the problems we face today’
The Mexican Resort Development Association (AMDETUR) kicked off its XXIV Annual Conference, titled Tourism Facing the New Challenges, with an opening ceremony led by the Tourism Minister of Mexico Gloria Guevara Manzo and Juan Vela Ruiz, chairman of AMDETUR, joined in the presidium by Senator Luis Coppola Joffroy, president of the Senate Tourism Commission; Adriana Pérez Quesnel, director of the National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR); Mauricio Limón Aguirre, sub secretary for Environmental Protection Management; Pablo Azcárraga Andrade, chairman of the National Tourism Business Council (CNET); and Howard Nusbaum, president of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA). The conference was held October 28-29, 2010 at the Hotel Hilton Mexico City Reforma.

During his welcome speech, Vela Ruiz reiterated that this is the moment to join efforts and work closer with the authorities in order to attain the “National Agreement” that the National Tourism Business Council, of which AMDETUR is a member, has been promoting in order to set the commitments each sector in the tourism industry must fulfill to foster this activity and reach even more ambitious growth expectations. “We have to start from the postulate that tourism is a state policy and a real national priority, and that it must be seen as such,” said Vela. “We have to learn from the past in order to solve the problems we face today. This will allow us to be more objective and creative in order to get ahead sooner,” he affirmed.
