Number of Tourists Increases in Dubai
August 31, 2010Dubai has developed into one of the top tourist destinations in the Middle East. There are a number of interesting attractions in Dubai which not only play host to tourists and shopaholics but also show the raw beauty of unexplored desert terrain to the rest of the world.
Recent reports state that tourist numbers in Dubai have increased by seven percent in the first five months of 2010. The DCTDA’s statistics show that European tourists accounted for 46 per cent of the total tourist arrivals, while GCC travelers accounted for 25 per cent; tourists from Asia made up 14 per cent; while holidaymakers from other Arab countries accounted for 10 per cent.
The latest survey by the Dubai Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (DCTDA) states: “The total number of guests staying in the emirate’s hotels and hotel apartments reached 637,390, a seven per cent increase compared to the 594,105 guests reported for the same period in 2009.” According to the new findings, there was also a 70 per cent hotel occupancy rate in the same period, compared to the 67 per cent in the corresponding period of 2009. It is likely to increase as Dubai is known for organizing high-end events and activities all year round. Moreover, visitors from every corner of the world are expected to visit Dubai in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan. During this festive month the city has its own charm allowing visitors to have a close look into the traditions and culture of the UAE.
