July 1, 2010The first-ever South American Shared Ownership Investment Conference, organized by RCI and HVS, proves to be a great source for knowledge and networking
The first South American Shared Ownership Investment Conference – SASOIC 2010 – held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from May 31 through June 1 was a great success and paved the way for the second edition to be held at a venue to be
determined. The event was organized by HVS Buenos Aires, a leading consulting firm in the hotel, tourism and leisure
industry, and the South American arm of vacation exchange giant RCI (Resort Condominiums International).
This two-day meeting at the JW Marriot at Copacabana Beach was attended by more than 140 owners, executives, managers, directors and consultants from the travel lodging and real estate sectors, with the purpose of discussing South American industry trends. Participants included representatives from local and international developers of fractional properties and vacations clubs, hotel chains, hotel and resort owners, builders, real estate companies, law firms, investors, investment-fund firms, and timeshare and fractional ownership marketing and sales consultants.

Luis Mirabelli, business development vice president of RCI South America, estimated that about 70% of the attendees
were existing timeshare developers, with another 20% of participants being people who were looking into timeshare,
including “some of hoteliers and real estate developers.” Mirabelli estimates that the rest of the attendees were individuals involved in fractionals, either directly in Brazil or in the larger South American region.
