Discover Día de los Muertos in Mexico with El Cid Vacations Club

Orlando, Florida, October 22, 2018 – (PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE) – Mexico’s award-winning resort group, El Cid Vacations Club is thrilled to welcome guests from all over the world who will be staying at its fabulous properties in Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations to experience and celebrate, Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) this Fall.

Day of the Dead is a yearly event that revolves around celebrating and remembering deceased loved ones. Every November 1st and 2nd, small and large cities throughout Mexico have their own unique way of celebrating this 3,000-year-old tradition; however, the Day of the Dead altars where people put photos of loved ones who have passed, water and food to replenish their souls, and decorative sugar skulls is a mainstay in all Day of the Dead celebrations. Mazatlán, Riviera Maya, and Cozumel all have large gatherings and celebrations for Day of the Dead.

In Mazatlán, the public celebration of the holiday begins the evening of November 1st in the heart of the city at the Plaza Machado. When the sun sets, a colorful costumed crowd with traditional skull makeup will parade throughout the Centro Historico. In addition to the parade, El Cid Vacations Club guests staying in Mazatlán also have the opportunity to attend a special performance at the Angela Peralta Theater.

In Riviera Maya, guests can “receive the souls of the dead” at Xcaret theme park’s Festival of Life and Death that runs from October 30th to November 2nd. Now in its 13th year, this festival includes exhibits from local artisans, interactive workshops, and live performances by Eugenia León and Ely Guerra. This Day of the Dead event is the largest and most established in Riviera Maya and attracts guests from all over the world.

Although Day of the Dead celebrations are smaller in Cozumel, guests staying at El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel will still have plenty to do if they want to experience Day of the Dead authentically. It is tradition for families to decorate altars in front of their homes, and also prepare food and drinks to enjoy at the cemetery with their loved ones.   Visitors can view impressive altars, beautifully dressed Catrinas, and indulge on pan de muerto. Many other holiday activities will take place in and around Parque Las Palapas in downtown, which is just a short ferry trip.

Whether guests stay at Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort or at El Cid’s newest property, Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, El Cid La Ceiba Hotel in Cozumel, or stay in Mazatlan at El Cid El Moro Beach, El Cid Marina Beach Hotel & Yacht Club, or El Cid Granada Hotel & Country Club, El Cid Vacations Club members will be treated to the best accommodations possible with a staff who are dedicated in delivering superior hospitality that goes above and beyond. For almost 50 years, El Cid has pride itself in being one of the best resort groups in Mexico.
